Why ‘fake degrees’ is not a non-issue?

Spokesperson of the ruling People’s Party Mrs. Fauzia Wahab said that she is unable to grasp what the Chief Justice wants out of the fake degrees issue? Other politicians and a minor section of the society are also of the opinion that there are other more critical issues than verifying the educational qualifications of public representatives. To add to the argument, the Punjab Assembly’s resolution against media has opened up another Pandora’s box and now issues relating to terrorism, poverty, corruption, water shortage and price hike have totally gone off …

The ‘inevitable’ clash!

Would you like an atheist American as Chairman of WAPDA? A white City Nazim for Karachi or for that matter a British Director General of FIA in Punjab? Would you encourage wine shops and dance bars across Karachi, Lahore, Rawalpindi and Islamabad? How would you react to roving half-naked girls at Constitutional Avenue in Islamabad and at Millennium Mall in Karachi? Paving righteousness and salvation

Recent Gallup Pakistan survey also shows that majority of Pakistani population considers economic issues …

Blind faith or emotional pull?

Recent debates, especially on facebook, regarding Zaid Hamid and his relations with a convicted blasphemer who died in jail almost a decade ago have certainly caught the Pakistani youth by surprise. They find themselves locked in an argument which is taking a heavy toll on their intellect and energies. On one side there are people who look upto traditional religious scholars with a good number of years and experience in the matters of religion while the other segment is quite wary of these sources and choose to follow their …

The truth about US Justice

Many of us are still in a state of shock over the guilty verdict returned on Dr. Aafia Siddiqui. The response from the people of Pakistan was predictable and overwhelming and I salute their spontaneous actions. From Peshawar to Islamabad, Karachi, Lahore and beyond they marched in their thousands demanding the return of Aafia.
Even some of the US media expressed discomfort over the verdict returned by the jurors … there was a general feeling that something was not right. Everyone had something to say, everyone that is except the usually verbose US Ambassador …
