Zardari, Cameron hold talks today

London: President Asif Ali Zardari and British Prime Minister David Cameron will meet today followed by informal talks held here on Thursday.

Relations between the two countries have soured since Cameron lashed out at Pakistan’s alleged support for extremism last week.
Tension has been building ahead of the showdown later Friday at Chequers, with both leaders refusing to back down.

Swiss cases are over; AG tells SC

Islamabad: Attorney General of Pakistan told Supreme Court (SC) that no further correspondence with the Swiss officials would be made as the matter is over.

The court bristling at this government step, summoned the Federal Law Secretary and Chairman National Accountability Bureau (NAB).

PPP will overcome all problems: Zardari

Bahawalpur: President Asif Ali Zardari has asserted that the Pakistan Peoples Party-led government has implemented 80 percent of its manifesto, and claimed the “fronts are being opened against the government”.

Addressing a public meeting here on Wednesday, the president said all fronts opened against his government have been thwarted with the prayers of people.

President signs 18th Amendment Bill

Islamabad: President Asif Ali Zardari has signed the 18th constitutional amendment bill on Monday to make it part of the constitution.

Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani, cabinet members, PML-N Chief Nawaz Sharif, Chairman Constitutional Reforms Committee of the Parliament Senator Mian Raza Rabbani, Chief Ministers and governors of the provinces attended the ceremony held at the Presidential House.
The 17 judges of the Supreme Court were also invited but they could not attend the ceremony.

Malik reviews security arrangements for joint session

Islamabad: Interior Minister Rehman Malik Saturday chaired a high level meeting and reviewed security arrangements for the joint sitting of the parliament scheduled for April 5 (Monday).

The meeting, which was attended by Federal Interior Secretary Qamar Zaman Chaudhry, Chief Commissioner Islamabad, Inspector General of Islamabad Police and representatives of other law enforcement agencies, also discussed the prevailing law and order situation in the country.

Govt files Petition Seeking Review of NRO

Islamabad: The government on Monday has filed an amended petition in Supreme Court (SC) to review its verdict against National Reconciliation Ordinance (NRO).

The government also defended former Attorney General Malik Qayyum’s action of asking Swiss authorities to withdraw anti-corruption cases against Zardari under the now defunct National Reconciliation Ordinance (NRO).
The petition, filed by government lawyer Kamal Azfar, cited over 70 points on the basis of which the government wanted the Supreme Court to review its decision to annul the NRO in December last year that had benefited some 8,000 people.
