Polling underway in Bahawalpur by-election

Bahawalpur: Polling is underway in National Assembly constituency NA-184 of Bahawalpur for by-election.

The seat NA-184 fell vacant after the resignation of Pakistan People’s Party’s Amir Yar Waran for possessing a fake degree. Waran was declared ineligible to have contested elections by the Lahore High Court for holding a fake degree.
Khadija Waran, wife of Amir Yar Waran, is contesting for today’s by-polls on the PPP ticket. Meanwhile, Mian Najeebuddin is fielded by Pakistan Muslim League–Nawaz.

BB’s 57th birth anniversary being celebrated today

Larkana: Pakistan Peoples Party’s (PPP) chairperson late Benazir Bhutto’s 57th birth anniversary is expected to be celebrated by PPP workers with much enthusiasm across the country today.

The party has planned to organise different functions, seminars and events shedding lights on the life and achievements of its late chairperson, who was the first ever woman Prime Minister of the Muslim World.

Patel resigns to protest Coordinator’s murder

Karachi: Abdul Qadir Patel, a PPP’s member national assembly and Chairman of NA standing committee for Interior affairs, has announced resignation from two offices in a bid to register protest against killing of his coordinator Eidi Ameen Khaskheli and former councilor Abdul Ghani Bachani by unidentified gunmen on late Friday.

According to police sources, the incident occurred when three unknown gunmen, riding motorcycle, opened fire resulting in deaths of Eidi Ameen Khaskheli and Abdul Ghani Bachani.

PPP’s Dasti, Jatt win NA by-polls

Muzafargarh: Pakistan People’s Party managed to bag both national assembly seats in by-polls on Saturday while the PML-N clinched one of the two Punjab Assembly seats and an independent candidate won the other seat.

According to the unofficial results, Jamshed Dasti from NA-178 secured 52,624 votes while Pakistan Democratic Party’s candidate Iftikhar Ahmad Khan remained second who grabbed 46,235 votes. Thus according to the unofficial results, Jamshed Dasti won the by-elections with a lead of six thousand votes.

PPP will overcome all problems: Zardari

Bahawalpur: President Asif Ali Zardari has asserted that the Pakistan Peoples Party-led government has implemented 80 percent of its manifesto, and claimed the “fronts are being opened against the government”.

Addressing a public meeting here on Wednesday, the president said all fronts opened against his government have been thwarted with the prayers of people.
