SC should also summon NRO creator: PM

Lahore: Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani has said that the judiciary should also summon the creator of NRO.

Talking to members of Lahore Press Club here Prime Minister Gilani said the Minister of Law will appear before the court on May 25 to present the government point of view.

SC to hear NRO implementation case today

Islamabad: The Supreme Court will continue hearing of the case regarding the implementation of the court’s verdict on the National Reconciliation Ordinance (NRO) on Friday and summoned Chairman NAB and Law Secretary Justice (retd.) Aqil Mirza who had submitted his resignation.

The five-member bench led by Justice Nasirul Mulk comprises Justices Raja Fayyaz Ahmed, Jawwad S.Khawaja, Rahmat Hussain Jafferi and Tariq Pervez. The bench has asked NAB chief to tell the court about the developments so far regarding the implementation of the apex court’s December 16, 2009 National Reconciliation Ordinance judgement. …

Islamabad: Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chuadhry Tuesday said that the judiciary has taken upon itself to uphold rule of law and protect the masses.

SC orders arrest of cops involved in woman torture

Islamabad: Supreme Court (SC) has issued orders for arresting those involved in violence against a woman case in Faisalabad.

The three-member SC bench headed by Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Iftikhar Muhammed Chaudhry heard the suo motu case of violence against manhandling of a woman at the hands of Faisalabad police.
The court expressed grave concern over the attitude of police during the course of hearing.

SC cancels multi-billion dollar LNG supply deal

Islamabad: Supreme Court Wednesday cancelled the LNG contract awarded in last February.

The Supreme Court took suo motto notice of the case after a newspaper claimed that the Ministry of Petroleum ignored the lowest bidder in awarding a contract of 3.5 million tons of LNG import.
A three-member bench headed by Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry declared the February 9 contract of Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) ineffective and ordered renewed bidding of the contract.

SC annuls promotion of 54 bureaucrat to grade 22

Islamabad: Supreme Court of Pakistan has cancelled the orders made by the prime minister regarding the upgradation of 54 bureaucrat into grade-22 and issued notifications in this regard.

The SC directed the PM to again make appointments on these posts on merit.
On January 29, a three-member Supreme Court bench headed by Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry reserved the judgment of the case, which was filed by a number of affected officers of BPS-21 against the promotion of 54 officers of grade 21 to grade 22 by the prime minister.
